Indulge in a broad mushroom selection, tofu, veggies, and free-flow house-made dim sum, this experience is perfect for vegetarians and omnivores alike. Though pricier than traditional hot pot, the exceptional service and unique dining make it a must-try.

The Food: 4/5

Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms – a cornucopia of these spongy delicacies awaits at Yunnan Mushroom Hot Pot, from the common to the most exotic species that seem otherworldly. The only drawback? I wish the pot were larger to accommodate more food at once.

The highlight for us was the made-to-order "dim sum" menu, featuring delights such as scallion oil wonton dumplings with an unnamed smoky herbal filling, mushroom sashimi, and, of course, the Yunnan truffle clay pot rice. Even to the group of foodies I was dining with, this vegetarian menu offers a strong variety of new flavors and textures, satisfying even vegetarians and omnivores alike. I found myself eagerly exploring new mushroom varieties and admiring the presentation of the shrooms in all shapes and forms.

The only area where I felt there was room for improvement was in the dessert selection. While traditional mung bean cakes and red bean soup were delightful, a simple addition of high-quality black sesame ice cream would have elevated the food rating to a solid 5/5.

The Service: 5/5

Here is where Yunnan Mushroom Hot Pot truly shines. The staff are impeccably trained, providing service that rivals even the most upscale hotels. Starting from warmly welcoming guests at the door to assisting with the buffet, adding food to the hot pot, and hand-serving specials of the day – their approachable demeanor and genuine smiles enhance the dining experience. Perhaps it's the intoxicating aroma of mushrooms that keeps them in high spirits (pun intended).

They anticipate your needs and go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. For us, it was the simple gesture of offering a second bowl of truffle clay pot rice (usually limited to one) or presenting traditional roasted tangerines upon departure.

Overall, the exceptional service alone is reason enough to plan a return visit.

The 228rmb price tag is a little steep compared to most hot pot spots. However, the variety of fungi is a saviour in this aspect. Great for an occasion, not too often.
